Vaccines

Vaccines are an essential part of every pet’s comprehensive wellness and preventative care. Not only are certain vaccines required by law, but vaccinations also protect pets and people from the spread of dangerous and highly contagious zoonotic diseases.

How Do Vaccines Work?

Pet vaccines work in the same way as vaccines for humans. They introduce your pet’s immune system to a small amount of inactive virus. The body’s immune system responds and learns to recognize the virus. Then if your pet is exposed in the future, their immune system will respond immediately, preventing them from getting sick.

Are Vaccines Safe for My Pet?

Yes, vaccines are safe for pets. With any medication, there is always some risk of adverse reaction. Our veterinarians will inform you of the signs and symptoms of an adverse reaction, so you can keep an eye on your pet following their appointment. However, the benefits of vaccination far outweigh any risks. Additionally, our veterinarian will only recommend the vaccinations that we believe your pet truly needs to avoid administering unnecessary treatments.

Which Vaccines Does My Pet Need?

Our veterinarian will work with you to determine the most appropriate combination and schedule of vaccines to protect your pet. Vaccines are split into two categories: core and non-core vaccines.

Core Vaccines

Core vaccines include those that are required by law for pets to have and/or recommended for all pets based on the danger, prevalence, and severity of a disease.

Non-Core Vaccines

Non-core vaccines include elective vaccinations that are given to pets based on the individual pet’s lifestyle and exposure risk factors. Factors that determine non-core vaccination recommendations include wildlife exposure, travel, pet boarding, pet daycare, and grooming.
