Spays & Neuters
Spays & Neuters
Our experienced veterinary surgeon at Bonner Springs Animal Care Center provides in-house spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs. We perform these routine surgeries with the utmost care and attention.
What Are Spay and Neuter Surgeries?
Spay and neuter surgeries are performed to sterilize dogs and cats. A spay surgery removes a female pet’s ovaries and uterus, and a neuter surgery removes a male pet’s testicles.
The Benefits of Spaying and Neutering Pets
While choosing an elective surgery for a pet is a big decision, the benefits of spaying or neutering your pet far outweigh any risks.
Better Health
Spay and neuter surgeries eliminate the risk of cancers associated with the reproductive organs that are removed during surgery. Additionally, they reduce the risk of reproductive-related cancers that can develop later in life in pets that are left intact.
Sterilized pets also come into physical contact with fewer animals over their lifetimes, significantly reducing their risk of contracting contagious diseases and infections.
Better Behavior
Pets with active reproductive systems can be aggressive and territorial. Their reproductive drive can also lead to spraying and marking territory, excessive vocalization, and dangerous roaming.
Better for the Community
Spaying and neutering prevent the birth of unwanted litters, which reduces the burden on overcrowded animal shelters and rescues and helps reduce the number of animals euthanized in shelters each year.
Pre and Post-Surgical Care
Our veterinarian will provide with you instructions for preparing your pet for surgery the day leading up to their procedure.
Most pets return home the same day, and we will provide you with instructions for helping them have a smooth and speedy recovery. This will include medication administration and wound care, restricting activity, and restricting your pet’s access to his or her wound. We will also schedule a follow-up appointment for removing your pet’s stitches.
